AI focal points
A focal point marks where the subject of a photo is, so when Dirigible crops the image for a card, banner, or thumbnail, that spot stays in frame. The AI Focal Points screen finds the subject for you. You can adjust the result before saving.
The screen lists Images Without Focal Points by default. Switch the filter to All Images or Has Focal Point to see the others. The numbers at the top show your total images, how many are missing a focal point, and how far along you are.
Nothing is generated automatically when you upload an image.
Open the screen
- Install and activate Dirigible AI Alt Text.
- In the WordPress admin, go to Dirigible → AI Focal Points.
Add your API key
Under API Configuration, choose OpenRouter (the default) or OpenAI.
- Paste your OpenRouter API Key or OpenAI API Key. A key entered here isn't saved, so you'll paste it again next time.
- If a key is already saved for the whole site, the screen says so and you can skip this.
- Leave Model on the recommended default unless you have a reason to change it.
To save a key for the whole site, go to Dirigible → AI / OpenRouter and fill in OpenRouter API Key.
Set a focal point for one image
- Find the image.
- Click Generate Focal Point. The result fills in X (%) (left to right) and Y (%) (top to bottom), but isn't saved yet.
- Adjust the numbers if you want.
- Click Save Focal Point.
Photos (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP, AVIF) appear on this screen. SVGs and PDFs don't.
Generate All Focal Points
Generate All Focal Points sets a focal point for every image missing one and saves each one right away. Click Refresh List to update the count.
There's no approval step. To check each point before it's saved, generate and save one image at a time.
