Getting started
Create a product
- In the WordPress admin, go to Products → Add New Product
- Set the title. The editor opens with a starter layout: the featured image on the left, the title, a paragraph, and a Buy Now → button on the right
- Replace the paragraph with your description, and point the button where customers buy. You can add anything else the block editor offers, including a form with a payment field
- In the sidebar, set the Featured Image. It is the image in listings and in the starter layout
- Write an Excerpt: the one-line summary under the title in listings
- Assign Categories
- Publish
Products use the block editor, so a product page can hold as much as any other page.
List products on a page
- Edit a page and insert the Products block
- Tick the Category boxes to list part of the catalog, or leave them all blank for every product
- Choose a Layout: Grid (five per row), Dense (seven per row, tighter), or Loose (three per row)
- Set Images, Titles, and Excerpts
- Give visitors a way to the product page: pick a Links style (and a Link Text) for a button under each card, or turn on Image Links. Both are off by default, and then the cards don't link anywhere
- Pick an Order By if the default order is not right
What visitors see
- Every product has its own page at
/products/product-name/(the Slug setting under Products → Settings). - Each category has a page at
/categories/category-name/listing its products, laid out by the Archive Template setting on the same page. - The Products block lists published products only. Drafts and private products are left out.
Tips
- Order By → Default is the order you drag products into in the Products list once Sort by dragging is on there (see the theme's Custom Order). Without it, Default is oldest first.
- Keep the Excerpt to a sentence. Long excerpts make uneven rows.
- This is not WooCommerce. If you need a cart, checkout, or stock, use a store plugin instead and keep Dirigible Products for a catalog.
