Getting started

Create a footer

  1. In the WordPress admin, go to Footer β†’ Add Footer
  2. Give it a title β€” that name is only for the Customizer list, not for visitors
  3. Edit the starter blocks, or replace them
  4. Publish

New footers start with a Section set to Gray and a wide Columns block with three empty columns. Change those settings or swap in other blocks. The starter layout is a suggestion, not a lock.

A footer has no public page of its own. Visitors and search engines cannot open it as a URL. It only appears after you enable it in the Customizer.

Turn it on

  1. Go to Appearance β†’ Customize
  2. Open Dirigible Plugins β†’ Freeform Footer
  3. Select your published footer in Footer
  4. Turn Enable on
  5. Publish the Customizer changes

Until Enable is on and a footer is selected, the theme footer from Appearance β†’ Customize β†’ Footer & Contact still shows.

What still prints

  • The Dirigible Attribution line under the footer still prints. Turn that off under Appearance β†’ Customize β†’ Settings β†’ General if you do not want it.
  • Landing page templates and Link in Bio pages do not show a site footer, including a freeform one.

Tips

  • Publish the footer before you open the Customizer β€” the Footer list only includes published items.
  • Use a Section for the background and padding so the footer matches the rest of the site.
  • Turn Enable off to go back to the theme footer without deleting your freeform layout.
