Overview

Once a day, Google PageSpeed Insights loads your home page the way a mid-range phone on a slow mobile connection would, and scores how quickly it appears and responds. Dirigible Optimize keeps each result for 90 days and charts it, so you can see whether a change made the site faster or slower.

The chart is on the Daily PageSpeed Score card in Dirigible → Optimize Settings. Your clients see the same chart in a PageSpeed panel on their Dashboard.

Before it runs

  • A license. Tests only run where Dirigible Optimize is licensed. Add the license under Dirigible → Licenses.
  • A public address. Google has to reach the site, so tests don't run on local or private addresses such as a Local development site.

Until then, the card says Not running and why. Each site tests at its own fixed time of day. To get a first result now, click Test now → and wait about a minute. The card shows Testing… and updates when the result arrives.

Reading the results

The card shows four figures. Each is the median of the last 7 days, marked Good, Needs work or Slow by Google's thresholds.

Figure What it measures Good
Score Google's 0–100 rating of how fast the page loads on a phone. The latest single score is shown below it. 90 and above
Largest paint How long until the biggest image or heading near the top of the page appears. Under 2.5 seconds
Layout shift How much the page jumps around while it loads. Under 0.1
Blocking time How long the page is too busy running scripts to respond to a tap. Under 200 ms

Hover over or tap a dot on the chart to see a single test. What these numbers mean under the chart explains each figure in plain words, for you or your client.

Scores move from day to day. Each test is one run on a shared Google server, and server load, third-party scripts (maps, video, chat, analytics) and caching vary. Until a site has five tests, the card says it's still collecting data. Read the weekly trend, not one day.

Pages with large photos, video or third-party scripts usually score between 50 and 90.

On the Dashboard

The PageSpeed panel appears on the Dashboard's Welcome screen after the first result. After two weeks of tests it moves up, just below Palette. Administrators see a Details → link to Optimize Settings.

The panel is hidden when tests are turned off, or when the license lapses, so a chart that has stopped updating doesn't linger.

Turn it off

Check Turn off daily PageSpeed tests on the card and save. Tests stop and the Dashboard panel disappears. Uncheck it to start again; earlier results are kept.
