Import & Export

Updated

Overview

Bookings → Import & Export moves bookables in and out of the site with everything you set in their Booking panels: checkout, spots, weekly hours, dates, ticket types, extras, questions, waiver and wording. Use it to:

  • Copy bookables to another Dirigible site, for example from a test site to the live one before the season.
  • Keep a copy of how a bookable is set up before big changes.
  • Set up several bookables at once from a spreadsheet.

You can also get there from the Import and Export buttons at the top of All Bookables.

You need an Editor or Administrator account. An export holds the staff email that reservation notices go to, which visitors never see, so authors can't export.

Bookings never travel. The file holds how each bookable is set up, not who booked it. For a list of bookings, use Download CSV on Bookings → Schedule. Sessions you closed or changed on the Schedule stay on their own site too.

Export

  1. Go to Bookings → Import & Export and stay on the Export tab.
  2. Choose JSON to import the file on another Dirigible site, or Spreadsheet (CSV) to open it in Excel, Numbers or Google Sheets.
  3. Turn on Include drafts and private ones if you want those too.
  4. Select Download export file.

Copy bookables to another Dirigible site

Export as JSON on one site and import the file on the other (below). The description and Booking Form come across exactly as they are, with the image and categories. The image is downloaded from the site the file came from, so that site needs to be online.

With WooCommerce, each paid bookable gets its own hidden product on the new site, as if you'd published it there. Its product categories follow its booking categories.

Import

  1. Go to the Import tab and drop the file on the box, or select Choose a file.
  2. Nothing changes yet. You see every bookable with what will happen to it:
    • New: it isn't on this site, so it's added.
    • Update: it's already here and the file has changes. The list names them (Weekly hours, Ticket types…).
    • Skip (No changes): it's already here and nothing differs.
  3. Untick any you don't want brought in.
  4. Choose what happens to bookables already on the site: Update it from the file, or Leave it as it is (only add new ones). If the file has no Status column, choose whether new ones are added Published or as Drafts. Drafts take no bookings until you publish them.
  5. Select Import. Keep the page open until it finishes.

A bookable in the file updates the one on this site with the same web address (Slug), then the same title. Updating a bookable that already has bookings keeps them: they still count against its spots, as when you change its settings in the editor.

Set up bookables from a spreadsheet

The easiest start is to set one bookable up in the editor, export it as a Spreadsheet (CSV), and copy its row for each new one. Only Title is required. Leave out any column you don't need: a new bookable gets the usual defaults for it, and an empty cell never changes an existing one.

Column What goes in it
Title The bookable's name.
Description What people are booking. Plain text works: leave a blank line between paragraphs. The bookable's page becomes its title, this text and the Booking Form. On a bookable already on the site, that replaces its whole page, so leave this column out to keep a page you've laid out in the editor.
Checkout Pay with WooCommerce or Free reservation.
Spots per session, Session length (minutes), Days ahead people can book, Most tickets in one booking Numbers.
Season opens, Season closes Dates, like 2026-11-15.
Pause bookings, Overlapping sessions, Show spots left, Let people change or cancel online Yes or No.
Weekly hours, Dates, Ticket types, Extras, Questions Lists, written the way an export writes them. Copy these cells from an exported bookable rather than typing them.
Waiver text, Note for people who book, Button text Wording, as in the editor.
Send reservation notices to An email address. Empty means the site admin email.
Categories Names separated by `
Image The web address of an image. It's downloaded into the Media Library.
Status Published or Draft.

Column headers can be in any case: the preview shows how each one was read, and lists any it ignored.

Undo an import

When an import finishes, select Undo this import. It deletes the bookables that import added, the images it downloaded and the categories it added, and puts every bookable it updated back as it was. Undo stays available for 7 days.

  • A bookable edited after the import, including a session closed or changed on the Schedule, is left as it is and listed.
  • Undo it before anyone books a new bookable: bookings made in between keep their place in the Schedule, but their bookable is gone.
  • With WooCommerce, the hidden products of bookables it deletes are kept as drafts (so any orders still point at them), and the shop categories made alongside its new booking categories stay.
