Overview

Each person gets their own profile page with a headshot (the featured image), contact details in the sidebar, and a biography you write in the editor.

Add people under People → Add New in the WordPress admin.

Real-world example

UW–Madison DCS Directory entries typically include:

• Featured image — professional headshot
• Job title — sidebar field (e.g. "Associate Director of Digital Strategy")
• Excerpt — short bio line under the name in directory cards
• People Categories — department or team, used for the directory's filter buttons
• Content — the full biography on the person's page

Editor basics

• Fields: name (title), biography, featured image, and excerpt
• No archive page: place the People block on a page instead
• URL slug: Customizer Slug (default people)
• Organizing: Categories (with parent/child levels) and Tags

Person Info (sidebar)

• Layout — Default, Sidebar, Minimal, Placard, Details Right, Profile Header, Portrait, Spotlight, Split Sidebar, or None. Overrides the site default from Appearance.
• Job title — role or position line shown in listings
• Website, Phone, Text Number, Fax, Email Address
• Street Address, City, State, Zip
• Social URLs — Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, YouTube

Person Sidebar

Add your own blocks to the sidebar, under the contact details: a heading and list of what the person specializes in, a booking button, office hours. On a layout with a sidebar column (Sidebar, Details Right, Spotlight, Split Sidebar), select Edit on Sidebar Blocks at the end of the sidebar, then type into it as you would the bio. It's the Person Sidebar block, so you can also add it from the inserter in the bio. A person has one. Layouts without a sidebar column show it where it sits in the bio.

Tips

• Assign People Categories as you add people so directory filters work from the start.
• Choose which contact details appear on person pages under Appearance → Customize → Dirigible People → Appearance.
