People Categories

Overview

People Categories is a hierarchical taxonomy attached to the People post type. Categories power the People block category filter and By Category query mode.

Properties

• Hierarchical: yes (parent/child categories)
• REST API: enabled
• Block filtering: used by People Categories, Filter Categories, and By Category on the People block

Real-world example

dcs.wisc.edu/directory uses categories like Academic Affairs, Badger Precollege, and Continuing Education as filter pills — each maps to a People Category term.

Tips

• Create top-level categories for departments and child categories for sub-teams when needed.
• Enable Enable Filtering on the People block and select matching Filter Categories for visitor-facing pills.
