Works

Overview

Works are the individual portfolio items. The WordPress admin menu uses the Portfolio label (customizable). Each work is a public, hierarchical post with a featured image, excerpt, block-editor case study, and optional sidebar title and subtitle.

Create items under Portfolio → Add Work in the WordPress admin. New works start with a suggested block template: a background section, featured image, and title.

Content that listings use

  • Title — the post title, unless you fill the sidebar Title field to override it on cards
  • Subtitle — optional line under the name in Collection layouts
  • Featured image — used by every collection block; items without one are skipped in logo and packery layouts
  • Excerpt — short summary on cards, sliders, and collection archives
  • Collections — groups that Collection blocks and collection archive pages query
  • Filters — terms that power visitor-facing pills on the Collection block

WordPress features

  • Supports: title, editor, thumbnail, excerpt, comments, revisions, author, page-attributes (parent work), custom-fields
  • Archive: disabled — put a Collection block on a page instead
  • Permalink slug: Customizer Slug (default work)
  • Taxonomies: Collections (hierarchical, public archives), Filters (hierarchical, admin and block filters only)
  • Hierarchy: works can have a parent work via page attributes

Sidebar fields

  • Title — optional override for the listing name (leave blank to use the post title)
  • Subtitle — optional second line on Collection cards, lists, and overlays

Legacy Image and Excerpt sidebar fields are hidden; use the featured image and the WordPress excerpt instead.

Tips

  • Write the one-line card summary in the excerpt; put the full case study in the editor.
  • Assign Collections before you build listing pages — every collection block filters by those terms.
  • Assign Filters only when a Collection block will show filter pills.
  • Turn on Prev/Next Navigation under Appearance → Customize → Dirigible Portfolio → Single Page to link adjoining works at the bottom of each case study.
