Music Player

Usage

The Music Player block shows a release's or song's player: the cover with a "Load Spotify player" (or Apple Music, Bandcamp, SoundCloud) button. The service's own player loads right there on the page when a visitor presses it, or by itself a few seconds after the page has loaded once it's on screen, so nothing from Spotify or the others slows the page down (or your PageSpeed score). On a site with a cookie notice, it only loads by itself for visitors who accepted cookies.

Release and song pages already show their player, so use this block on other pages: the home page, a news post, a landing page. On a release or song page it reads that one; elsewhere, pick one under Play.

Which service plays: Plays on in the block's sidebar picks one for this block. Left on Automatic, the release's or song's own Player & video → Player choice is used, else Spotify, then Apple Music, Bandcamp and SoundCloud (Music → Settings → Preferred player goes first). A service with no listen link falls back to Automatic. A song with no player of its own plays the single it's on (a release with just that song). A song that's only on albums or EPs has no player then, rather than the whole album's: give it its own Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp or SoundCloud link to play it.

Before a release date, the block shows "Plays from Nov 11" instead, and the player takes its place on the day, in the visitor's browser. In the editor you see the player, with a note saying so.
