Usage

Single Event is the root block for every Events post. New events open with this block locked in place (template_lock: insert) so the event header and metadata always render consistently while the body stays fully editable.

Visitors land here from Events listing blocks — each card or list row links to the event's permalink. The block outputs the title, formatted dates, venue details, optional map and ticket links, then whatever blocks you add inside.

Layouts

Choose Layout in the block sidebar (defaults from Customizer Default Single Template):

  • Sidebar (Customizer default) — metadata in a side column beside body content
  • Default / Simple — streamlined single-column header and body
  • Billboard — hero-style event header
  • Article — editorial layout with optional Header Align (Wide or Default)

Additional block settings:

  • Title — Customizer typography preset for the event title (default h3)
  • Show Excerpt — display the post excerpt in the header (when Customizer Show Excerpt is on)
  • Show Time — show start/end times in the header (default on)
  • Background — White or Gray panel behind the header area (default Gray)

Inner blocks

The event body is freeform InnerBlocks. Add paragraphs, photos, columns, embeds, CTAs, or any Dirigible block. The default template inserts a starter paragraph inviting you to write about the event.

Event sidebar fields (Starts, venue, tickets, map embed, etc.) feed the header automatically — you don't duplicate dates or addresses in the body unless you want extra editorial context.

What to put in the body vs. sidebar

Block width

Single Event defaults to Full width alignment.

Tips

  • Set the global default layout under Customizer → Events → Events Single Template.
  • Override Layout per event when one show needs a billboard hero and another needs sidebar metadata.
  • Pair with Event Countdown on a landing page when promoting a single upcoming date.
  • Listing blocks handle discovery; Single Event handles the detail page — keep excerpts short and put the full story in InnerBlocks.
