Recurring events

Use recurring events for weekly classes, monthly meetups, or a concert residency: you set up one event and Dirigible creates a dated copy for each occurrence.

On the parent event (the one you create first):

  1. Set Starts to the first occurrence date and time.
  2. Turn on Recurring Event.
  3. Choose Repeat — Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly.
  4. Set Repeat Ends — the last day of the series. The series runs through the end of that day, whatever time you enter.

Dirigible creates a separate occurrence event for each date in the series. Each occurrence gets its own URL and appears in listings like any other event. When you open an occurrence, the editor notes that it belongs to a recurring series and hides the Recurring Event toggle.

Search engines: occurrences point search engines to the parent event as the main page, so the sitemap lists the parent and leaves the occurrences out. An occurrence that sells its own tickets counts as its own page and stays in the sitemap.

Monthly and yearly series: occurrences fall on the same day of the month as the first one. A series that starts on the 29th, 30th or 31st uses the last day of any shorter month (January 31, February 28, March 31, …).

Skipping a date: open Events, choose View recurring events on the parent, and move that date's occurrence to the Trash. The date stays skipped when you save the parent again, even after the Trash is emptied. To bring it back, use Restore next to the date in the "Skipped dates" line at the top of that list, or restore the occurrence from the Trash.

Changing the start time: edit Starts on the parent. Every occurrence moves to the new time and keeps its page address, including dates that already sold tickets. Occurrences you edited yourself keep their own time.

Editing an occurrence: Changing an occurrence detaches it from the parent. A warning appears the first time you edit; detached occurrences keep their own dates and content and no longer inherit parent updates. Use Re-Attach Event in the editor status area to discard your edits and sync back from the parent (this cannot be undone).

Tips for recurring series:

  • Edit shared copy, event details, location, categories, featured image, and ticket settings on the parent — non-detached occurrences stay in sync.
  • When you save the parent, a progress toast shows how many eligible occurrences are being created or updated. When removing occurrences, it shows the candidates being checked and then the number actually removed.
  • Sold or customized occurrences are protected when you change the repeat schedule; they are not deleted silently.
  • Detached occurrences keep their own dates and content and no longer inherit parent updates.
  • Moving the parent to the Trash moves its occurrences too. Restoring the parent restores them; dates you had skipped stay skipped.
  • One series creates up to 730 occurrences (two years of daily dates).
