Import & Export

Updated

Overview

Events → Import & Export moves your events in and out of the site:

  • Import a spreadsheet of events to add a season's schedule at once, or to update venues, ticket links and times across many events.
  • Export your events as a spreadsheet (CSV) to edit or keep, or as a JSON file to copy them to another Dirigible site.

You can also get there from the Import and Export buttons at the top of the Events list. You need an Editor or Administrator account. Importing also needs permission to upload files, because images are downloaded into the Media Library.

Moving from The Events Calendar on the same site needs no file at all: see Move from The Events Calendar.

Export

  1. Go to Events → Import & Export and stay on the Export tab.
  2. Choose Spreadsheet (CSV) or JSON.
  3. Turn on Include drafts and private ones if you want those too.
  4. Select Download export file.

A repeating event is exported once, with its repeat settings. Its individual dates aren't separate rows.

Import a spreadsheet

The quickest start is Download a blank spreadsheet on the Export tab: it has every column with the right header.

  1. Fill in one row per event. Title is required, and every event needs a Start.
  2. Save it as CSV and drop it on the Import tab.
  3. Check the preview. Every row says New, Update (naming what changes), Skip or Error, and you can untick any of them.
  4. Select Import. If it's interrupted, open the page again and select Resume import.

Columns

Column What goes in it
Title The event's name.
Start, End Date and time, like 2026-11-05 19:00 or 11/5/2026 7:00 PM. A date without a time starts at midnight.
All day Yes for an event without times: it runs the whole of its Start day (through its End day, if there is one), and shows dates only.
Location A location from Locations, by its name or the last part of its web address. A name the site doesn't have is left out, and the preview tells you.
Venue, Street address, City, State, ZIP code, Phone, Email Where the event is, for events without a linked location.
Repeats, Repeat every, Repeat interval For a repeating event: Yes, then Day, Week, Month or Year, then every how many (2 for every 2 weeks; empty means 1).
Repeat weekdays For a weekly series: the days, as names or numbers (Mon, Thu or 1,4, 1 = Monday). Empty means the start's weekday.
Repeat on, Repeat months For a monthly or yearly series: Same day of the month, Same weekday of the month (the third Wednesday) or Last weekday of the month; and for a yearly series the months (March, September).
Repeat ends, Repeat until, Repeat times On a date (then Repeat until is the last date), After a number of times (then Repeat times, counting the first date) or Never. Empty means on a date.
Skip dates Dates the series makes no occurrence for, separated by commas (2026-12-25, 2027-01-01).
Tickets link, Ticket availability, Ticket button text A link to buy tickets somewhere else, On sale / Sold out / Pre-order, and the button's words.
Cost The price as visitors should read it on the event page: $10, Free, $5–15 suggested.
Performers Names separated by `
Event status, Attendance Scheduled, Cancelled, Postponed, Rescheduled or Moved online; In person, Online, or In person and online.
Organizer, Organizer website, Website, Video, Short description, Map embed The rest of the event's details.
Categories, Tags Names separated by `
Image The web address of a photo or poster. It's downloaded into the Media Library.
Content, Excerpt, Status, Slug The page content, its summary, Published/Draft, and the last part of its web address.

Repeating events

A row with Repeats set adds the event and then makes its dates, the same as publishing a repeating event in the editor. The dates appear a moment after the import finishes.

Tickets sold on your site

Tickets sold through the site (with WooCommerce) aren't imported or exported: their products, prices and sales stay with the site that sold them. After importing, set up tickets in the event's editor.

Updating events that are already on the site

A row updates an existing event when it has the same web address (Slug), or the same title and start. A weekly class with the same title every week is matched date by date, so a row for a new date is added as a new event.

Only what's in the spreadsheet changes. An empty cell never clears anything. Updated events keep their status and web address.

Undo an import

When an import finishes, select Undo this import. It deletes the events it added (with their repeat dates), the images it downloaded and the categories it added, and puts every event it updated back exactly as it was. Anything edited after the import is left as it is. Undo stays available for 7 days.
