Recurring events cover weekly classes, monthly meetups, or anything else that repeats on a schedule. You set up the first event, turn on recurrence, and Dirigible Events creates the rest of the dates for you. If you haven't made an event yet, start with Add events and an event calendar to your site.

Set up a recurring series

The first event you create becomes the parent of the series.

  1. Go to Events β†’ Add New Event, or edit an existing event that isn't already a date in a series.
  2. Set Starts to the first date and time.
  3. In the sidebar, open Event Information.
  4. Turn on Recurring Event.
  5. Choose Repeat: Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly.
  6. Set Repeat Ends to the last date the series should run.
  7. Add the title, description, venue, categories, tags, and featured image. Every date in the series shares these.
  8. Click Publish or Update.

Dirigible then creates a separate event for each later date. Each one has its own page and appears in listings and calendars like any other event. A progress message may appear while the dates are being created; let it finish before checking the Events list.

The parent shows a notice, This is a recurring event., with a View recurring events link to the dates. On any other date in the series, Event Information says This is a recurring occurrence. and the repeat settings are hidden.

Update the whole series

Make shared changes (description, venue, featured image, categories, tags) on the parent. Every date you haven't customized picks up the change when you update the parent.

Edit one date without changing the series

To change a single night, such as a different time, description, or venue:

  1. Open that date from View recurring events or the Events list.
  2. The first time you edit it, a Recurring occurrence dialog warns that Editing this event will detach it from the parent.
  3. Choose Edit parent if you meant to change the whole series, or Continue editing to customize this date only.
  4. Save your changes.

That date now keeps its own content and no longer picks up changes from the parent. A notice says This occurrence has been edited and will no longer receive updates from the parent event.

To undo your customizations and match the parent again, click Re-Attach Event (Discard Edits) in the editor or in that notice, then confirm. This can't be undone.

Change the schedule later

On the parent, change Repeat or Repeat Ends, then click Update.

  • Dates you customized are kept.
  • Dates with ticket sales are kept.
  • Unused dates that no longer fit the schedule may be removed.

If any dates with sales were kept, a notice in the admin tells you so.

Tickets for recurring events

With ticketing on, set the price and capacity on the parent. Each date sells its own tickets. See Sell event tickets with QR code check-in.

On a ticketed event page, visitors can click more dates to jump to other upcoming dates in the series.
