Restore the block editor if Classic Editor took over

If pages open in a single text box with a toolbar, with no + button to add blocks, the Classic Editor plugin is almost always the cause. Dirigible sites are built with the block editor (also called Gutenberg), so turn Classic Editor off.

Deactivate Classic Editor

  1. Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins.
  2. Find Classic Editor.
  3. Click Deactivate.
  4. Open any page from Pages. You should see the + block inserter and List View again.

You don't need to delete the plugin. Deactivating it is enough.

If pages still open in the classic editor

  1. Check that Classic Editor no longer shows as active.
  2. If it won't stay off, go to Settings → Writing, set the default editor to the block editor (the wording varies by version), then deactivate the plugin again.
  3. Ask your site administrator whether another plugin that disables the block editor is active.

If the editor looks fine but a block shows an error, that's a different problem. See Fix "This block contains unexpected or invalid content".
