Navigating blocks
When a page has many nested blocks, two tools keep you oriented: List View and the block toolbar.
List View
List View shows a hierarchical outline of every block on the page — parents, children, and order.
Open List View
- Open a page or post in the block editor.
- In the top toolbar, click the List View icon (three horizontal lines).
The outline opens so you can see structure at a glance.
Select and rearrange
- Click a row in List View to select that block on the canvas and open its toolbar.
- Drag a row up or down to reorder blocks.
- Nested items sit under their parent — useful for columns, groups, and sections.
Block toolbar navigation
Each selected block has a toolbar with quick navigation and reorder controls.
Typical options include:
- Select parent — jump from a child block to the wrapping parent (for example, from a paragraph inside a column up to the Columns block).
- Drag handle (six dots) — drag the block to a new position on the page.
- Move up / move down — nudge the block one step at a time.
Changes in the toolbar stay in sync with List View.
Tips
- Prefer List View when a page is deep or crowded — clicking nested blocks on the canvas can be fiddly.
- Select the parent before you move or duplicate a whole section.
