Setting up the GDPR cookie banner

When GDPR Banner is on, Dirigible-managed tracking IDs under Analytics & Tracking stay off until the visitor accepts. Paste tracking IDs first (see Adding tracking codes), then turn on the banner if you need consent before those tags run.

Open GDPR Banner

  1. Go to Appearance → Customize.
  2. Open Scripts & Embeds → GDPR Banner.
  3. Toggle Enable on.
  4. Click Publish when the preview looks right.

Write the notice

Control What it does
Body (HTML Allowed) The message visitors read.
Accept Text Label on the accept button (default Got It!).
Decline Text Optional decline button. Leave empty to hide decline.
Show Privacy Policy Link Shows a link next to the buttons when on.
Privacy Policy Link Text Link label (default Privacy Policy). The URL comes from your WordPress privacy policy page.

Style the banner

Control Options / notes
Layout Corner (compact) or Centered (more prominent).
Shadow Adds a shadow behind the banner.
Background Banner background color from your palette.
Reverse Print Light text on a dark banner.

What the banner blocks

With Enable on, scripts from Scripts & Embeds → Analytics & Tracking (Google Analytics, Tag Manager, Facebook Pixel, and the other ID fields) do not load until the visitor accepts.

Raw snippets in Custom Embeds are not gated the same way — prefer ID fields for trackers that should wait for consent. See Adding tracking codes.

Confirm it works

  1. Open the site in a private/incognito window.
  2. Confirm the banner appears and tracking stays quiet until you accept.
  3. Accept, then verify tags with your analytics debugger if needed.

Consent is stored in the browser. Use a private window to test again after you change the notice.

  • Pair clear body copy with honest accept/decline labels.
  • This banner is a consent gate for Dirigible-managed tracking — it does not replace legal review for your region.
  • Keep Track Admin Sessions off on live sites so staff browsing is not counted after you accept for testing.
