Set up a blog page in WordPress

To set up a blog page in WordPress, create an empty page called Blog, then go to Settings → Reading and choose it as your Posts page. WordPress lists your posts on that page automatically.

On a Dirigible site, the look of the blog is set under Appearance → Customize → Blog & Posts. It covers the main blog page (the list of posts) and each individual post. Pick your blog page first, then style the post cards and single posts.

Choose your blog page

  1. Create a page to list your posts, usually called Blog. It can stay empty.
  2. Go to Settings → Reading. Set Your homepage displays to A static page, choose your home page as Homepage, and choose the blog page as Posts page.
  3. In the Customizer, open Blog & Posts → Settings and check that Blog Page matches, if you see that control.

How do I change the blog layout?

Under Blog & Posts → Settings:

  1. Choose a Layout and whether to show a Sidebar.
  2. Set BG Color, and turn on White Text if the background is dark.
  3. Fill in Default Headline and Default Description for the heading at the top of the blog.
  4. Adjust Page Number Format, Display Comments, and Hide Sidebar on Mobile as needed.
  5. Leave Custom Layout alone unless you're deliberately replacing the standard blog layout.

Style the post cards

Each post in the list shows as a card. Under Blog & Posts → Post Cards:

  1. Set Featured Image, Image Style, and Headline Style.
  2. Turn Date, Categories, and Tags on or off.
  3. Set the card's link with Link, Link Style, and Link Text.
  4. Set Excerpt Length, how much of each post's text shows on the card.

Highlight a featured post

Under Featured Post Display, turn on Display to highlight a post at the top of the blog. Then choose Style, Headlines, Link Text, and Date.

Single post pages

Under Blog & Posts → Post Pages:

  1. Choose Layout, Title Align, and Post Styles.
  2. Choose what shows around each post: Show Date, Show Author, Show Tags, Show Categories, Show Next/Prev Posts.
  3. Set Meta Position, Meta Align, and the widths for the date/author line and the next/previous links.
  4. Optionally turn on Show Social Sharing and Include Return Link (with Return Link Label and Return Link Style).

Post Defaults sets what new posts start with for Post Title, Featured Image, and Meta.
