Build a resource or partner directory with cards
To build a directory of partners, resources, or services, add each entry once as a card with an image, a short description, and a link. Then show them on a page as a grid or list that visitors can filter by category and search.
The steps below use the Dirigible Cards plugin and its Cards block. Cards are listed A–Z by title.
Add a card
- Go to Cards → Add New Card.
- Enter a title. If the name on the page should be different, set Display Title.
- Add an Image, Description, any extra content in the editor, and a Link.
- Assign Categories if you plan to filter cards on the page.
- Publish.
Show cards on a page
- Edit the page and insert Cards.
- Choose a Layout: Grid, Directory, Stratified, or Cards.
- Set Columns.
- To show only some cards, use Restrict Cards. To let visitors narrow the list, use Filter / Filters to Display and turn on Search.
- Choose what each card shows with Images, Image Links, Titles, Excerpts, Content (Description or Content), Links, and Link Text.
- Publish.
Why don't card titles hide?
Setting Titles to <hidden> does not hide card names. They still appear in the H3 style. Setting Excerpts, Images, or Links to <hidden> does hide those.
Can each card have its own page?
Cards don't have their own pages by default. To give each one a page, go to Appearance → Customize → Dirigible Plugins → Cards and turn on Allow Archives. Cards are then left out of site search. Most sites only need the block.
Tips
- Set up clear category names before turning on filters.
- Use images with the same shape so the grid lines up. See Best image size and format for your website.
