Add events and an event calendar to your site
To add an event calendar to your site, create each event once with its dates and venue, then place a block that lists upcoming events or shows them on a calendar. Each event also gets its own page for the full details.
The steps below use the Dirigible Events plugin. For a weekly class or monthly meetup, see Set up recurring events. To sell tickets, see Sell event tickets with QR code check-in.
Create an event
- Go to Events → Add New Event.
- Enter a title and write the event description.
- In the sidebar, open Event Information and set:
- Starts and Ends
- Location, Venue, the address fields, Phone, and Email Address
- Website URL / Website Title, Map Embed, and Video URL if you have them
- For a repeating series, turn on Recurring Event. See Set up recurring events.
- Add Categories and Tags if you plan to filter listings by them.
- Set a featured image if your layout shows one.
- Click Publish.
New events usually start with a Single Event block in the content. Select it to change Event Layout options such as Layout, Title Style, Show Excerpt, Show Time, and Background.
Show events on a page
Events appear on your site wherever you place an events block:
- Edit the page where the events should appear.
- Insert the Events block, or Events Calendar for a calendar view, or Event Countdown to count down to one event.
- In the Events sidebar under Content, choose Display (for example Default (Ongoing & Future), Past, or All), categories, Limit Events, and Events To Show.
- Under Appearance, set Display As (List, Cards, or Mini), Columns, title and date styles, image options, excerpt, and links.
- Publish the page.
Tips
- Listings and the calendar go by Starts and Ends, so keep those accurate.
- To feature one event elsewhere on the site, insert a Single Event block and choose that event.
- Event pages include structured data, so search engines can read the date, the venue, and ticket offers when you sell tickets. See Check your site's structured data.
- Every setting on the listing blocks: Events and Events Calendar.
