Site navigation lives under Appearance → Menus. Create a menu, add links, nest dropdowns, then assign the menu to a theme location such as the header or footer.

Open Menus

  1. Log in to the WordPress admin.
  2. Go to Appearance → Menus.

If you already have menus, pick one from the dropdown at the top. To start fresh, enter a Menu Name and create the menu.

Assign a location

On the same screen, check a Display location (for example, primary / header navigation or footer). Locations depend on your Dirigible theme and child theme. Save after you change locations.

You can also assign menus under Appearance → Customize → Menus if you prefer the Customizer.

Add items

  1. In the left panels, open Pages, Posts, Custom Links, or other content types.
  2. Check the items you want and click Add to Menu.
  3. Drag items in the right-hand list to set order.
  4. Click Save Menu.

Rename, remove, and nest

  • Expand an item with the arrow to edit the Navigation Label (the text visitors see — it can differ from the page title).
  • Click Remove to delete an item from the menu (the page itself stays published).
  • To make a submenu, drag an item slightly right under another item so it becomes a child.

Save the menu whenever you finish a set of changes, then refresh the front end to confirm.

Tips

  • Keep top-level labels short; put detail in dropdowns.
  • After renaming a page’s title, check menu labels — they do not always update automatically.
  • For large mega menus, see Creating a mega menu if that plugin is active on the site.
