Create a portfolio page

To build a portfolio page, add each project once with a title, featured image, and short description, then place a block that shows them as a grid, cards, or a list. Optional filters let visitors narrow the projects by type.

The steps below use the Dirigible Portfolio plugin, where each project is a Work, and its Collection block.

Add a work

  1. Go to Portfolio → Add New Work.
  2. Enter a title, set a featured image, and write an excerpt.
  3. To show a different name on the listing, set Title and Subtitle in the sidebar.
  4. Assign Collections, and Filters if you want visitors to filter the listing.
  5. Publish.

Build the portfolio page

  1. Edit the page and insert Collection. For logos or sliders, try Logo Collection, Logo Grid Collection, Packery Collection, or Portfolio Slider.
  2. In the sidebar, choose a Layout: List, Overlay, Cards, or Grid.
  3. Choose which Collections to show, or leave it blank to show all your work.
  4. To let visitors narrow results, turn on Allow Filtering and choose Filters.
  5. Turn Show Title, Show Subtitle, Show Excerpt, and Show Link on or off.
  6. If Layout is Overlay, set Padding.
  7. Publish the page.

Do I need to change the Customizer settings?

Under Appearance → Customize → Dirigible Portfolio → Setup you can change Slug, labels, Collection Slug, and Portfolio Page. You don't need any of these to show works with the block.

Tips

  • Only add Filters if you'll turn on Allow Filtering in the block.
  • Crop featured images the same way so the grid looks even. See Best image size and format for your website.
  • A portfolio page with a few focused collections usually reads better than one grid with every project.
  • Every setting on the listing block: Collection.
