Add a site-wide pop-up

Dirigible has a site-wide pop-up built in, so you don't need a pop-up plugin for announcements or newsletter sign-ups. Turn it on under Appearance → Customize → Pop-up, set when it appears, then add a headline and either a sign-up form or a button.

Turn on the pop-up

  1. Go to Appearance → Customize → Pop-up → Settings.
  2. Turn on Enable.
  3. Set Position: Center for a full modal, or Corner for a smaller notice.
  4. Set Delay, the number of seconds before it appears (0–10, default 5).
  5. Set Reshow After (Days), how long before a returning visitor sees it again. Use 0 to show it again only when you change the pop-up's content.

Write the content

In Pop-up → Content:

  1. Enter a Headline and Subeadline (the field label is spelled that way in the Customizer).
  2. Add an Image and Body (HTML Allowed) text if you want them.
  3. Back in Settings, choose a Headline Style and Subheadline Style to match the rest of your site.

Add a newsletter form

  1. Create a form in Gravity Forms. An email field and a submit button is usually enough.
  2. Note the form's ID.
  3. In Content, enter that number in Gravity Form ID. Enter 0 for no form.

Or add a button that links to a page

Set both Link Page and Link Text. The button only appears when both are filled in.

Pick one: a form or a link. A single clear action gets more responses.

How do I show the pop-up on one page only?

In Settings:

  • Limit to Page shows the pop-up only on the Page you choose.
  • Always Show on Blog also shows it on the blog and individual posts, even when it's limited to one page.

A Landing Page still shows the pop-up unless you limit it to a different page. The header is gone on those pages; the pop-up is not.

Test and publish

  1. Open the site in a private window so the delay and reshow timer start fresh.
  2. Check the home page, the blog, and any page you limited it to.
  3. Click Publish in the Customizer.

If the pop-up collects email addresses and your visitors need to give consent, also set up the GDPR cookie banner.
