Add a user to Google Analytics
To add a user to Google Analytics 4 (GA4), go to Admin → Property access management, click +, choose Add users, enter their Google email address, and pick a role. They get their own access, so you never share your Google password. Only someone with the Administrator role can add, change, or remove users.
Google Analytics users are separate from WordPress users. To give someone access to your site's dashboard, see Manage WordPress users and roles.
Should I add them to the account or the property?
- Account access covers every property in the account. Use it for people who manage all your analytics.
- Property access covers one property (usually one website). Use it when someone only needs one site.
If you're not sure, add the person to the property.
Add a user
- In Google Analytics, click Admin.
- Open Account access management (under the account settings) or Property access management (under the property settings).
- Click the + button, then Add users.
- Enter the person's email address. It must be a Google account or Google Workspace address.
- Leave Notify new users by email checked so they know they have access.
- Choose a role (see below).
- Click Add.
Which role should I choose?
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Administrator | Everything, including adding and removing users. Keep this to the site owner and whoever manages your analytics. |
| Editor | Change settings, events, and data streams, but not users. |
| Marketer | Work with audiences, key events, and attribution, plus everything a Viewer can do. |
| Analyst | Create and share reports and explorations, but not change property settings. |
| Viewer | See reports and settings only. |
Give each person the lowest role that lets them do their job. You can also tick No Cost Metrics or No Revenue Metrics to hide those figures from them.
Change someone's role
- Go to Admin and open Account access management or Property access management.
- Search for the person's email address.
- Click their row, change the role, and save.
Remove a user
- Open the same access management screen and find the person.
- Click their row, then remove their access and confirm.
To remove several people at once, check the box next to each one and use Remove.
Someone who has access to the account also has access to its properties. If you remove a person from a property but they still appear there, check Account access management too.
Tips
- Remove access when someone leaves your team or an agency contract ends.
- Keep at least two Administrators so you're never locked out if one Google account is lost.
- Search Console access is managed separately. See Add your WordPress site to Google Search Console.
