Create documents, reusable snippets, and a knowledge base

To build a knowledge base or FAQ page, write each question and answer once, group them by category, and place one block that lists them with a search box. The same approach works for multi-page manuals and for content you repeat on many pages.

The steps below use the Dirigible Manifest plugin, which gives you three kinds of content: Answers for a knowledge base or FAQ, Documents for multi-page manuals, and Snippets for content you reuse on many pages. You place answers and snippets on pages with blocks.

How do I build a knowledge base or FAQ page?

  1. Go to Answers → Categories and add the categories you need.
  2. Go to Answers → Add New Answer, write the question as the title and the answer in the body, assign Categories, and publish.
  3. Edit a page and insert Knowledgebase (one per page). Set Title (default Knowledgebase) and an optional Description. Leave Category empty to show all answers, or check categories to limit the list. The block includes a search field that also matches words in the answers.
  4. For a compact FAQ list, add Knowledge Base FAQ. It also tells search engines the questions and answers on that page (FAQ structured data).
  5. Go to Appearance → Customize → Dirigible Manifest → Settings and set Knowledgebase Page so each answer links back to it. Change Back to Knowledgebase Text if you want different wording.

Create a multi-page manual (Documents)

  1. Go to Manifest → Documents → Add New Document.
  2. Write inside the Document layout.
  3. To nest it under another document, set Page Attributes → Parent (and Order).
  4. Publish.

Each document has its own page. Link to it from a menu or another page. Nesting builds the document sidebar, breadcrumb trail, and previous/next links. To show a document's child pages as cards, turn on List Children in the layout sidebar, then set Children List Layout to List or Grid.

Reuse content on many pages (Snippets)

  1. Go to Manifest → Snippets → Add New Snippet.
  2. Write inside the Snippet Page layout.
  3. Add a featured image or featured video if you want.
  4. Publish.
  5. On any page, insert Snippet for one snippet or Snippet Collection for several, choose them, and publish.

Edit a snippet once and every page that uses it updates.

Tips

  • Use Documents for structured manuals and Snippets for content that repeats across pages.
  • Keep answer categories simple and named the way visitors think. They drive the filters.
