Usage
Open Appearance → Customize → Blog & Posts → Settings to configure the main posts index and shared blog behavior. Choose a Layout, set BG Color and White Text, and pick Sidebar placement for listing pages.
Point Blog Page at your posts index so return links and breadcrumbs resolve correctly. Advanced sites can select a Custom Layout page and build a private shell with {{posts}} and other placeholders.
When to use it
- Setting up a new blog before styling individual cards or single posts.
- Switching from a default grid to a magazine layout or full-width archive.
- Hiding the sidebar on mobile with Hide Sidebar on Mobile for cleaner phone reading.
Tips
- Default Description fills in category and tag intros when a term has no description of its own.
- Default Headline is replaced by the category or archive title on taxonomy pages.
- Display Comments is a global default — individual posts can still override discussion settings in the editor.
- Custom layout pages should stay Private so search engines index real posts, not the shell page.
- Pair White Text with a dark BG Color when the archive hero sits on photography.

Select a page to use for a custom blog layout. Be sure to use the keyword placeholders:<br><br><mark>{{title}}</mark> - The archive title<br><mark>{{description}}</mark> - The archive description<br><mark>{{#}}</mark> - The current page number<br><mark>{{posts}}</mark> - The posts<br><br>You should set this page to private so it does not get indexed by search engines.
The format of the page number used in the custom blog layout. Keyword <mark>{{page}}</mark> will be replaced with the current page number.
Select a page to use for the blog page. This will be used for the return link in the previous/next posts section.
This will be replaced by the category name or archive title.
