Site Default Images

Updated

What it helps you do

New blocks start with one of your site's own photos instead of an unrelated stock photo. Add a Hero and it already shows a photo from your brand, so a page looks finished sooner and nothing goes live with a stranger's picture by mistake.

Where to find it

How to use it

  1. Open Default Images in the Customizer.
  2. Click Add Images, pick photos in the Media Library, and click Add Images again. Remove one with the × on its thumbnail.
  3. Click Publish.
  4. Add a block in the editor. It starts with the next photo from the set.

What happens automatically

  • A new Hero, Photo Feature, Vignette, Media Strip or Quote Blocks block starts with a photo from the set, as if you had picked it yourself. Change or remove it the usual way.
  • Section, Landing Page, Link in Bio and Page Blocks panels start with a colour background. Switch one to the Image background without picking a photo and it takes one from the set.
  • A new page's starting blocks get photos too, until the page is first saved.
  • Each block takes a photo no other block on the page uses yet. Once every photo is on the page, they repeat in order.
  • One Undo takes back the new block, or the background switch, together with its photo.
  • Theme Setup's Content step puts the photos it uses on the sample pages in the set: your own photos first, topped up with sample photos to make five. Running Theme Setup again replaces the set when it makes a page with photos (Home, About, Contact or Showcase); a run that only makes Blog, the legal pages or menus leaves it as it is.

Things to know

  • Blocks already on your pages never change. A block with no photo keeps showing what it shows today.
  • Copied, duplicated and pasted blocks, and blocks from patterns, keep the photo they came with (or none).
  • With no photos in the set, new blocks start without a photo, as before.
  • Photos you delete from the Media Library drop out of the set.
  • The set lives on this site only. Exporting theme settings doesn't include it, because the photos belong to this site's Media Library.
