Plugins Dirigible Replaces

Updated

What it helps you do

Some plugins do a job that's already built into Dirigible. With both running, the plugin takes over and the built-in feature turns off, or the two get in each other's way. So when you go to activate one of these plugins, Dirigible tells you first and points you to the built-in feature.

Plugin Built into Dirigible as
Simple Custom Post Order, Intuitive Custom Post Order Custom Order
Search Exclude Hide From Site Search
YARPP (Yet Another Related Posts Plugin) Related Posts
SVG Support SVG uploads in A Smarter Media Library

Where you'll see it

  • Plugins → Installed Plugins: clicking Activate on one of these plugins, or choosing Activate from Bulk actions with one selected, opens a short message first. It names the built-in feature, links to How to use it, and says what changes while the plugin is active. Keep the built-in feature cancels. Activate anyway activates the plugin as usual: nothing is blocked.
  • Plugins → Add Plugin: the plugin's card says Dirigible already does this, with the same link.
  • Activated some other way (a site management tool, the command line, or the network admin): people who can activate plugins see a small message in the corner of wp-admin with the same advice, until they dismiss it. It goes away when the plugin is deactivated, and after a week.

What happens if you activate one anyway

  • Simple Custom Post Order or Intuitive Custom Post Order: while it's active, it sorts your lists and Custom Order stays off. On a site where Dirigible already switched it off, activating it again undoes the switch, and Dirigible won't delete it. On a site that never made the switch, Dirigible switches the plugin off again straight away and adds the lists it sorts to Custom Order. Lists Custom Order already sorts stay as they are.
  • Search Exclude: while it's active, it decides what your site search leaves out and Hide From Site Search stays off. If Dirigible switched it off and hasn't deleted it yet (that takes a week), activating it again undoes the switch: it goes back to the list it had then, without pages you've hidden or shown since. Otherwise Dirigible switches it off again straight away and adds the pages it hid to Hide From Site Search.
  • YARPP: Dirigible's Related Posts list stays hidden while YARPP is active.
  • SVG Support: it and Dirigible both process your SVG files, which can clash. Dirigible switches it off again the next time the theme updates.

The message on the Plugins screen says which of these applies to your site.

Things to know

  • Only people who can activate plugins (usually Administrators) see these messages.
  • Deactivating the plugin later hands the job back to Dirigible, with the built-in feature's settings as they were.
