Utility Nav

Usage

Open Appearance → Customize → Header & Menus → Utility Nav to add a strip above the primary masthead. Turn on Enable Utility Nav, set Height and Background, then choose a Layout for banner text versus icons.

Enter Banner Text for short announcements (“Free shipping this week”). Toggle Show Social Media, Show Cart, and Show Login as needed, and set link colors with the opacity sliders for photography-backed headers.

When to use it

• Seasonal promos or hours that should appear on every page without editing the header block.
• B2B or membership sites that want login beside the menu without crowding main navigation.
• Stores that prefer cart access in a slim top bar while keeping the main menu uncluttered.

Tips

• Enable on Mobile controls whether the utility bar appears above the hamburger or hides on small screens.
• Reverse Print flips text and icon treatment — pair it with a dark Background on light pages.
• Social icons need profiles under Settings → Social Media; turn on Social Colors only if you want brand-colored network icons instead of your palette.
• Utility nav is separate from Desktop → Show Cart / Show Login — pick one location so shoppers are not shown duplicate icons.
